A recent CargoMaster customer experience highlights the importance of carefully choosing the right freight forwarder to Africa or any other destination you may be thinking of shipping to.
Prior to contacting CargoMaster, our customer called a competitor, the competitor was advertising on Google search . Our customer decided to use the forwarder to ship their container to Africa. The container was lodged at the wharf in Australia by the freight forwarder, for export to Africa. Australian customs impounded the container at the Australian wharf, due to incorrect and or false documentation, the freight forwarder claimed he was not responsible for the customers incorrect documentation (even though he prepared and presented the documentation to Australian Customs), THE CUSTOMER WAS FORCED TO PAY OUT many thousands of dollars in fines and IMPOUNDMENT fees!
Of course the freight forwarder was responsible and should have paid the impoundment fees themselves, after all it was their mistake!
Moral Of The Story, Be on the look out, it’s very easy to profess experience and load a webpage with lots and lots ,even hundreds of shipping destinations and then advertise on Google.
So you see what I mean, when choosing a freight forwarder you need to ask questions and more questions, ask yourself, do they really have experience, how long have they been around? read their “about us” do they provide any history about themselves? do they have liability insurance? check to see if they accept credit cards? (if not, ask yourself ,why not? if a bank wont trust them with credit card facilities, should you trust them with shipping your goods?(remember,if you pay with credit card, you should be able to get your money back!) find out more about the freight forwarder BEFORE you commit yourself and hand over your precious cargo.
