St Petersburg | Air & Sea Freight
CargoMaster is committed to delivering international freight services that are secure, compliant, and fully aligned with Australian trade laws. For this reason, we are unable to provide direct freight forwarding, logistics support, or cargo transport services to St Petersburg, Russia at this time. This restriction is not a reflection of our capability, CargoMaster has decades of hands-on expertise managing complex international freight operations but is entirely the result of strict Australian Government sanctions. These regulations carry serious implications for exporters, and our policy ensures all clients remain fully protected from unintended compliance breaches.
Since 2022, Australia has implemented one of its most far-reaching sanction regimes in response to global events. This framework places significant limitations on commercial dealings linked to St Petersburg, Russia, and these measures remain firmly in place through late 2025. The rules govern what goods may be shipped, which entities can receive them, and whether any form of direct trade is legally permitted. Because these restrictions span many major industries, most goods typically handled by freight forwarders cannot be exported to St Petersburg, Russia. As a result, CargoMaster cannot arrange shipments that fall within prohibited, high-risk, or uncertain regulatory categories.
The sanctions also impose a total ban on the direct importation of numerous goods originating from St Petersburg, Russia. This includes oil, refined fuel products, gas, coal, military-related equipment, gold, and an extensive list of restricted items. In addition to outright bans, Australia applies a punitive 35 percent tariff on the few categories of Russian-origin goods that remain legally importable. This tariff extended until October 2025, has made direct sourcing from St Petersburg, Russia commercially impractical. Combined, these restrictions prevent CargoMaster from receiving, transporting, or assisting with customs clearance for any cargo sourced directly from the region.
Export controls are equally strict. Australia prohibits the shipment of machinery, industrial components, electronics, drone parts, alumina, aluminum ores, and a broad range of specialised goods destined for St Petersburg, Russia. Many of these items once formed a significant share of bilateral trade, meaning most outbound freight categories are now legally restricted. CargoMaster adheres to a zero-tolerance compliance policy, which means we cannot accept or manage cargo bound for St Petersburg, Russia if the goods appear, directly or indirectly, on Australia’s controlled export lists.
As a result of these combined import and export measures, trade activity between Australia and St Petersburg, Russia has dropped to virtually zero. By mid-2025, official figures indicated that meaningful bilateral trade had almost entirely ceased, marking a dramatic shift from pre-2022 conditions when regular freight movements were common. While isolated exceptions may exist, such as petroleum products processed through third countries, these scenarios do not reflect standard trade practices. For all practical commercial freight purposes, direct shipping channels between Australia and St Petersburg, Russia have effectively shut down.
Another major factor behind CargoMaster’s position is the increasing risk of indirect supply-chain violations. Australian sanctions law extends beyond direct trade, if goods eventually reach a sanctioned individual, organisation, or sector in St Petersburg, Russia, even after transiting another country, the exporter may still be held liable. With modern logistics chains becoming more complex and enforcement tightening, the risk of indirect exposure is substantial. To protect our clients from legal, financial, and reputational harm, CargoMaster cannot engage in any shipping activity connected to St Petersburg, Russia.
By choosing not to service freight movements to St Petersburg, Russia while these sanctions remain in force, CargoMaster safeguards Australian businesses from serious compliance risks. Our responsibility is to ensure every shipment we manage meets Australia’s highest standards of legal and operational integrity. We actively monitor government updates on sanctions and trade policy relating to St Petersburg, Russia, and should conditions change in the future, we will carefully reassess our service options.
For now, CargoMaster remains focused on providing secure, lawful, and dependable freight services to global destinations where trade is fully authorized. Our commitment to compliance ensures your shipments, and your business, remain protected at every stage of the freight journey.
